As an online accounting firm with a mostly remote team, it’s essential that great emphasis is placed on culture.  In a typical accounting firm, or any business for that matter, having a physical office means that individual team members see each other in the flesh every day - usually leading to a stronger bond.

This is not always the case of course, especially in light of the fact that technology has brought video-conferencing and other communication tools to the forefront - allowing individuals in varying geographical areas to still develop a great connection with each other.

That being said, we felt it was important to have the team meet in-person at least once a year - to socialize, to work together and to determine whether someone was taller or shorter than they appear on webcam :)

This past August, we reserved a beautiful and very large house in northern Ontario at Blue Mountain.  Our team drove in and flew in from all over Canada to meet with each other in-person, some for the first time.

The goal of the retreat was to hang out, eat good food (which we definitely did), work on some internal processes we wanted to improve at our firm and just relax and get to know each other.

The retreat was a great success and we’re already looking forward to the next one!

Below are some pictures of the trip and team!
